What is a Guardian Home? A Guardian home is a loving forever family for one of our program dogs. That dog becomes a cherished member of the family and gets to enjoy all the love, attention, and daily adventures of family life, while also remaining a part of our breeding program. This is a great way to ensure that all of our dogs continue receiving the one-on-one care that they deserve.
The Guardian family will be responsible for the aspects of normal pet ownership. This includes being responsible for providing food, routine vet care, routine grooming/hygiene healthcare, and basic obedience training (everything normal pet ownership would entail). Once the dog turns two years old, we will pay for all of her health clearances to be performed- hips, elbows, eyes, heart, and DNA. If the female does not pass any one of her clearances (and thus does not make it into the program), she will be spayed and stay with her Guardian family. She will then live the rest of her life as a normal pet-quality dog.
If she does pass everything and makes it into the program, the following will apply: She will come back to us for breeding, whelping, and raising of her litters. She will have up to 4 litters in her lifetime (we prefer to do 2 breedings back-to-back, skip a cycle, and do another 2 breedings back-to-back). The exact timeframe of each litter is to be determined after a consultation with our specialist reproductive veterinarian. We will only move forward with a breeding with the approval of that veterinarian.
What is the difference between a Guardian Home and a Co-Ownership? A Guardian Home is a loving forever family for one of our program dogs. That dog becomes a cherished member of the family and gets to enjoy all the love, attention, and daily adventures of family life, while also remaining a part of our breeding program. This is a great way to ensure that all of our dogs continue receiving the one-on-one care that they deserve. A co-ownership is when another approved breeder purchases a dog for their own program, but we still stay involved to ensure responsible breeding practices are being followed. Co-ownerships require a different process and are available on a much more limited basis (approved breeders only). What are the Benefits for the Guardian?
Guardian Home puppy will be purchased at a reduced cost upfront.
The Guardian family will receive compensation for each successful litter whelped.
The Guardian puppy will come with 2 years of insurance
Additionally, we offer the Guardian family the option to keep a pet puppy (non-breeding) back from one of her litters at no cost to the Guardian. If her family is wanting to keep another show/breeding Guardian home prospect, different arrangements can be made.
What are the Requirements?
Have an approved puppy buyer application with us
Live within 2 hours of us (contact us for exceptions)
Have a fenced yard
Not have any intact male dogs living in the same house
Be passionate about the Labrador breed :)
If being a Guardian Home is something that you would like to do, please feel free to inquire for more details. Please note that a Guardian Home is different than purchasing a breeding/show prospect from us for your own program. A dog in a Guardian Home stays in our program, whereas a show/breeding prospect is for another program. The terms for a show/breeding prospect puppy for an outside program are different than our Guardian Home terms, and we require a different process for one of those puppy placements. Please reach out for more information on that as well. In all circumstances, we will be a co-owner of the puppy.
Guardian Home Availability
We are accepting applications for Guardian Home females! We are looking for Guardian Homes for a chocolate puppy from Lola's and Scott's March 2026 litter, and for a yellow from Maya and Shamrock's summer 2026 litter. Below are some photos of past puppies from them.
Waffles
Please read through all of this information and only inquire if seriously interested.
Waffles is a 2 year old yellow labrador that weighs about 100 lbs. He has completed all of his health clearances and passed (hips, elbows, eyes, heart, and DNA). Waffles has a very sweet personality and loves to be spoiled! He gets along well with other females, but he should go to a home that does not have another intact male dog to avoid any conflicts. He is housebroken and knows his basic commands but would do well brushing up on some basic obedience. If his family completes an obedience course and obtains his CGC title, we will give a $250 reward. If his family also obtains his CGCA title (one step further), we will give another $250 reward. The arrangement for Waffles will be slightly different than our arrangements for our female puppy Guardian Homes. He will be serving an active role in our breeding program as our on-site stud. When he is needed for a breeding, we will let the Guardian family know, and he will come to stay with us for the duration of the breeding and go back home once done (usually about a week's time). When he is no longer a stud in our program, he will be neutered and live the rest of his life as a pet in the Guardian's family. As Waffles just turned 2 years old and will be starting out, we plan to keep him in our program for a while. This means if you are someone who doesn't think you will be able to commit to this long-term, please do not inquire about this opportunity. Waffles is a stud in our program only, and he is not allowed to be bred to outside females, and we are the sole owners of his semen. As such, his new Guardian family is not allowed to use him in any personal breedings.
What are the Benefits for the Guardian? - Waffles will be purchased at a reduced cost upfront (price is flexible, contact us) - We will offer the Guardian family the option to keep a pet puppy (non-breeding) back from one of Waffles' litters at no cost to the Guardian. This is a great option if you are interested in having a puppy directly related to your dog. ($4000 value) - Waffles will come with pet insurance paid for by us ($700 value annually) - Incentive for continuing obedience (up to $500)
What are the Requirements? - Have an approved puppy buyer application with us - Live within 2 hours of us - Have a fenced yard - Not have any intact male dogs living in the same house - Be passionate about the Labrador breed :)
We do not offer our males in Guardian Homes often, so this is a rare opportunity. If I haven't scared you away, I welcome your inquiries for him. Waffles is very much a part of our family, and I will wait as long as is necessary until the perfect family comes along for him.
